The “Société de Gestion des Participations Transports Maritimes” (abbrev. GESTRAMAR) is a Company for the Management of State Shares in the field of Maritime Transport. With assets amounting to 100 million DA it manages, on behalf of the State, a portfolio of four companies and their subsidiaries. Their segment of activity encompasses maritime transport of passengers, maritime transport of merchandise, marine auxiliary activities (ship forwarding, brokering, shipchandling) and ship repairs.
The assignments of SGP GESTRAMAR are the following:

  • Control, operational and strategic surveillance of portfolio of shares,
  • Performing renovation plans, restructuring and rehabilitating of the owned companies,
  • Achieving partnership and privatization programs,
  • Dealing with the process of management certification of the companies to ISO standards,
  • Converting actions of development into investment opportunities

The total workforce of these companies is 3 119 agents at the end of 2009, and their turnover adds up to 18 billion Dinars. The distribution of this turnover in each field of activity runs as follows:

MARITIME TRANSPORT
This segment of activity represents 81% of the total turnover, achieved by two companies of the portfolio:

  • CNAN Group and its subsidiaries in charge of the marine transport of merchandise and marine auxiliary activities.
  • ENTMV which deals with passenger transport.

MARINE AUXILIARIES
This segment of activity takes a share of 8% of the global turnover. Marine auxiliary activities encompass:

  • Ships and goods forwarding
  • Brokering
  • Shipment
  • Transport of national and international goods, essentially through containers
  • Shipchandling (ship supply of goods and catering)
  • Management of areas for the stocking of goods before custom clearance.

These activities are carried out by GEMA and its subsidiary FILTRANS.

SHIP REPAIR
The ship repair activity is carried out by ERENAV which takes a share of 11% of the global turnover. The activity concerns essentially hull and machinery repairs which take place in its repair yards in Algiers, Oran and Bejaïa.
